Hoddlesden Club
Our first gig at a new venue and what a night it turned out to be.
Firstly we were a man down in our attendance. ‘The Big Man’ was unable to make it meaning that we would immediately be without his guidance and awesome skills behind a camera.
Secondly, as announced at the gig, one of the JBB members was not 100%. Each band member has a ‘typical’ 9-5 job and the band is something that we do outside of these hours. Rarely do the two blend into each other but in this occasion they did.
Phil was unfortunate enough to slice open his middle finger on his left hand whilst at work on Thursday and was determined that we would not be cancelling.
In 25 years of performing as a band we have only ever cancelled a booking once and that was quite recent. We had all felt the effect of having to do this and none of us want a repeat.
So…some glue and a bandage later Phil was ready for action!
Now, we already knew that this venue had stairs to get into (and when we say stairs we mean two flights) and had already roped in a few extra people to support ‘The Bandit’ and us with lugging the equipment into the venue. A huge thank you to Ruth and Annie for your assistance with this.
Upon loading the equipment in and having set up and sound checked we awaited the venue to officially open at 8pm with the information we were live from 8:30pm.
It was at this point we were then informed by staff and a few patrons that tonight we were up against a few other engagements…somewhere in the local area there was a 21st Birthday celebration, the football was playing and there was an artist performing at the pub across the road. JBB were fine with this and went on to perform with their usual musical sound and comic behaviour on stage. With numerous gibes directed at Phil and his ‘milking it’ behaviour over his hand.
A great night was had by all who attended and some new followers have joined the JBB ranks. We look forward to returning to this great venue and also seeing our new followers at another venue in the near future.
The Unsung Hero
Behind every successful team there is always an unsung hero. Jack Burr Band has their very own unsung hero. This person is someone that is ever present and always forthright with their support for the band. This person supports the band as a whole but more specifically she is an ongoing inspiration for Chris. Ruth AKA Roo attends almost every gig, she consistently provides Chris with the support he needs to enable him to continue doing what he loves to do and on top of that she is a regular face at gigs. You will find Roo taking pictures, video and even lugging around boxes, bags and other equipment in and out of the van. Roo is a big part of the band and is hugely appreciated. There is no praise given or expected but in this review that is exactly what we are going to do. Thank you Roo for everything you do for the band it is a huge help and very much appreciated by the band and its regular followers.
